This course is designed to provide the student with a broad introduction to the first five books of the Bible as well as the Historical Books of the Old Testament. This course is divided into two sections; first section will be focused on Pentateuch while the second section will be on the Historical Books. After a brief survey of pentateuchal scholarship and a discussion of the interpretive issues surrounding the Pentateuch, we will work our way systematically through the Pentateuch, where we explore the content, major themes and theology of the Pentateuch. While the second section largely focusing on the Historical Books where we deal with the development of the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah, their destruction and restoration, reveal God’s plan for David and his descendants and also to understand their theological perspectives during the periods of the conquest, the judges, the monarchy, and postexilic Israel.
