About
This course provides an in-depth introduction to the theology and practice of Christian mission in pluralistic, multi-religious, and multi-cultural contexts, with a particular focus on the Indian landscape. It equips students to understand, navigate, and respond to the complexities of religious diversity with theological clarity, missiological sensitivity, and cultural awareness. Drawing from biblical models, historical examples, and contemporary case studies, students will engage with key religious and socio-political challenges that shape mission in a pluralistic society. The course examines popular and Christian attitudes toward pluralism, explores scriptural principles of mission, and analyzes various models of church planting in religiously diverse contexts. Attention is also given to emerging issues such as religious fundamentalism, secularism, interfaith dialogue, and the reception of Christianity by adherents of other faiths. Students will be encouraged to think critically and constructively about how to proclaim the gospel with integrity, humility, and relevance in a multi-faith society. By the end of the course, students will be able to articulate a biblically grounded and contextually appropriate mission strategy, cultivate interreligious sensitivity, and develop practical approaches for planting and sustaining indigenous churches in pluralistic environments.
